Covid-19 and how Armstrong Family Law is going to handle it – UPDATED

Armstrong Family Law is open for business.

Following the Prime Minister’s announcement of a nationwide lockdown on Monday 23 March 2020, Armstrong Family Law immediately implemented its emergency relocation plan and is temporarily operating from my home address for the duration.

I am able to function effectively from my new temporary location and this should have minimal effect on work that I am undertaking for my clients. Armstrong Family Law has been working towards becoming as paperless as possible for over a year now, so there should be little difficulty in not operating from my normal address.

I can be contacted on my usual telephone number: 01206 848426.

I am able to take on new clients, and I can offer telephone consultations in place of my normal face to face meetings. Most solicitors have been having a crash course in video conferencing since the lockdown began, me included. I am therefore now also able to offer consultations by Skype, FaceTime, Microsoft Teams and Zoom.

There are some regulatory steps that need to be addressed where I don’t meet a client face to face for the initial consultation, largely to do with telephone sales rules and anti-money laundering. I will therefore need new clients who want to have a phone or video consultation to electronically sign a consent form before the consultation. This is very easy and should be possible for anyone with a computer, tablet or smartphone. I will run through what is necessary before the consultation, and please be assured that it is very straightforward.

In cases where you will need to attend a court hearing, these are now mostly being undertaken remotely, either by telephone conferencing (such as BT MeetMe) or by video conferencing (such as Skype for Business). No physical attendance at court will normally be required.

I would be grateful if post is not sent to my office due to the difficulty in collecting this as a result of government travel restrictions. If this causes you any difficulty, please contact me.

If you would like to arrange a consultation, please contact me on 01206 848426 or click here.
