Armstrong Family Law

Armstrong Family Law believes the role of a family solicitor is to give clients the best possible advice so that they can then decide what direction to take.

Armstrong Family Law strongly promotes the importance of reaching an agreement whenever possible, but also recognises the need for some clients to use the Family Court to resolve their disputes.

Armstrong Family Law does not believe in a one size fits all approach and instead provides bespoke advice after discussing the circumstances at length with clients so that a decision can be made by the clients about how they would like to try to resolve matters, using constructive negotiation, collaborative law, mediation , arbitration, or through the Family Court.

The use of this website shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the law of England and Wales and the courts of England and Wales shall have exclusive jurisdiction.

Armstrong LR_14

Jon Armstrong is a solicitor and collaborative lawyer who has specialised in family law since 1996.

He has enormous experience in acting for clients who are going through the breakdown of a relationship with their spouse or partner. In particular, Jon specialises in divorce and financial proceedings, property disputes between unmarried couples and disputes about children. Jon is a great believer in alternative dispute resolution and that courts are often not the best place to resolve family cases and that alternatives such as negotiation, mediation and collaborative law are often more suitable. However, where these options are not appropriate or possible, Jon represents his clients in Family Court proceedings.

Originally from Ipswich, Jon read History at the University of Hull and then Law at the University of Leeds before attending law school at the College of Law in York where he obtained a Post-Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice, with distinction. He was a partner at a major Colchester law firm for 11 years, and latterly Head of the Family Department there, before deciding to set up his own niche practice specialising in family law in 2011.

Jon is a Resolution accredited specialist in family law with a specialism in advanced financial provision and disputes about children.

Jon is also a Resolution collaborative lawyer, and is a founder member of Collaborative Lawyers Colchester. He has also practised as a Resolution trained family mediator.

Jon is a member of the following national organisations:

The Law Society of England & Wales

Resolution

Solicitors Sole Practitioners Group

Locally, Jon is a former President of the Suffolk & North Essex Law Society (SNELS), having previously served as Vice President and Deputy Vice President.  Jon is also a past Chairman of Colchester Colne 842 Round Table and past President of the Colchester Business Lunch Club as well as being a member of the Business Café and Vice-Chairman of Colchester 41 Club.
